THE FIGHTS THAT DEFINE US

There are big, national fights shaping our everyday lives in Austin. But we aren't aren’t powerless. We’re organizing where our efforts and voices can make the biggest impact.

VOTING RIGHTS

Protecting our voices, freedoms, and future

WHAT IT ISVoting is the foundation of our democracy and the most direct we have to hold our electeds accountable. But across Texas and the country, that power is being chipped away through voter suppression laws, gerrymandered maps, intimidation, and disinformation. Protecting the vote means defending every person’s access to register, cast a ballot, and have it counted - and consistently standing up to those who would silence us.

WHY IT MATTERSWhen fewer people can vote, power concentrates in the hands of the few - often the same corporations and politicians working against our communities. Every obstacle at the ballot box weakens democracy, while every voter empowered to cast their vote strengthens it. With extremist legislators pushing measures like the SAVE Act to make voting harder, this is the moment to fight back and show that democracy only works when everyone can participate.

WHAT WE CAN DOWe must fight for and protect the right to vote at every level.Register voters and help others do the same by partnering with groups like MOVE Texas and the League of Women Voters AustinContact Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn to oppose the SAVE Act (H.R. 22), which adds unnecessary “proof of citizenship” hurdles and disenfranchises eligible votersVolunteer as an election clerk or poll watcher through your county election office or Common Cause TexasResearch, share, and advocate for candidates and ballot measures that protect democracy, your community, and voting access, using the nonpartisan League of Women Voters Voters Guide or VOTE411.orgHost a Democracy Day, postcard night, or neighborhood meeting to help others check registration, learn about the SAVE Act, and understand voter ID and mail-in rules as well as key deadlines.Back organizations protecting the vote. Vote early, remind friends, and help neighbors get to the polls. Turnout is the clearest proof that democracy still belongs to us.

CONSUMER POWER

hitting them where it hurts (Financially)

WHAT IT ISOur money is power and it’s one of the most underestimated tools we have to create real, substantial change. Where and how we choose to spend our money (or not spend) and what we support impacts business decisions and the markets at-large. It’s not just about boycotts or buying local, it’s about recognizing that our collective spending habits, attention, and advocacy to drive the behavior of corporations, media, and politicians.

WHY IT MATTERSEvery dollar we spend either strengthens the systems we oppose or builds the communities we believe in. In an era where corporations and billionaires shape policy, media, and even democracy itself, how we choose to spend (or withhold) matters more than ever. We're using our wallets, voices, and digital footprints to reward responsibility, challenge corruption, and build a local economy that reflects the kind of community we want to live in.

WHAT WE CAN DOWe're changing our everyday choices -- what we buy, where we shop, where we click.Spend your dollars at local, ethical, and community-centered businessesBoycott companies and corporations that bankroll the MAGA extremism and voter suppressionHold local affiliates accountable when national brands spread disinformation or exploit our citySupport XX politician or person or orgs
